Glasgow 101
2
bedrooms. Sleeps 4. This apartment is to be found in a gracious row of Regency town houses
standing high above the fashionable West End of the city, just a few minutes
walk from Sauchiehall Street and Buchanan Street, (a mecca for serious
shoppers), with the Concert Hall and theatres in one direction, and Kelvingrove
Park, the gothic confection of the University, the great sporting venue
of the Kelvin Hall and the Great Western Road to Loch Lomond (now the
site of the new championship golf course) and the Trossachs in the other.
Carefully restored and beautifully appointed, the apartment combines understated
elegance with every modern comfort. The spacious sitting room, with its
blonde wood flooring, large windows, flame effect fire and sumptuous sofas,
is perfect for relaxing after a hard day's sightseeing, shopping or culture
cruising. Or take your drink out onto the basement patio at the front
(furniture). With a sheltered area, it can be enjoyed even in less clement
weather. The modern kitchen is superbly equipped, though why eat in, when
you have some of the best restaurants in Europe within walking distance?
In the last decades, Glasgow has reinvented itself as an amazing holiday
venue. It is a city with a continuous buzz, which oozes wit and character.
From close to the house you can catch the Clockwork Orange, as the outgoing
and friendly Glaswegians refer to their metro, which will take you right
round the central city area. Wherever you go, look up, and marvel at the
superb architecture. Glasgow is, after all, the home of Charles Rennie
Mackintosh and Alexander 'Greek' Thompson. The Mackintosh-designed Glasgow
School of Art is nearby and you can also visit his House for an Art Lover
on the south side of the city. Over there, too, is the famous Burrell
Collection in Pollok Park. The apartment has 2 double-bed rooms (1 with
ensuite shower, WC and basin), sitting room (with TV/Video/DVD, hi-fi,
and living flame fire), kitchen/dining room (gas cooker, fridge/freezer,
dishwasher, and microwave), separate bathroom (bath, WC and basin), cloakroom
(WC and basin), and hallway with secure entry system. There is also a
utility room with washing machine and tumble drier. Non-smokers only.
Not suitable for children under 10 years. Heating is by gas central heating
and gas fire (first £10 is included, balance is payable on departure).
